Emotional Stress Release (ESR) : Super easy way to destress.

Updated: Nov 12, 2021

Are you stressed out or anxious? Do you feel stuck in this state of mind? There are many techniques you can use to help combat stressful and anxious situation. Today I would like to introduce an easy, quick, gentle yet very effective method to release stress: ESR Emotional Stress Release (ESR) Emotional Stress Release technique helps release stress, negative emotions, and even trauma. You simply touch GB14 points on your forehead. These are located on the forehead above each eye. Simply holding these points gently with 2 fingers of each hand can help you release the stress. You may start feeling a pulse in these points when stress is released. ESR brings more blood to the frontal lobe of the brain. Frontal brain is involved in problem solving skills. It is in charge of logic and reasoning and making rational decisions. When we use the frontal brain, we tend to find new way of looking at old problems, new possibilities, and alternative solutions. Back brain is the survival response mode (fight or flight mode). When you are in a stressful or anxious situation, blood rushes to the back of the brain and your decision making goes into fight or flight mode. You can simply place your fingers on the ESR points and take deep breaths and you will feel relaxed, or you can take the following steps if you like.

  • Assess your stress level on a scale of 1-10.

  • Close your eyes and put your fingers above your eye brows.

  • Focus on the problem or event.

  • Continue taking deep breaths.

  • Imagine your day or outcome that you would like to see.

  • Reassess the stress level on a scale 1-10.

It is super easy to conduct. On one occasion, I have put my fingers on my son’s forehead when he was having a total melt down, and it worked well. He simply stopped crying. When he calmed down, we were able to talk and give each other hugs. I am confident you will find this technique very useful, just like I do.
